Dr. Taifo Mahmud

Dr. Taifo Mahmud is Professor in the College of Pharmacy and Adjunct Professor in the Department of Chemistry at Oregon State University (OSU). He is also Co-Founder and Vice President of Gadusol Laboratories, Inc. Prior to coming to OSU, he was a Research Assistant Professor and Postdoctoral Research Associate at the University of Washington. He received his Ph.D. and M.Sc. from Osaka University, and his Apothecary and B.S. from the University of North Sumatra. Dr. Mahmud’s research interests are broadly in drug discovery and development. His group employs a multidisciplinary approach that utilizes cutting-edge technologies in molecular genetics, enzymology, and chemistry to access, study, utilize, and manipulate genes and enzymes involved in natural product biosynthesis to produce novel pharmaceuticals. He has over 25 years of experience working on natural products research, and has published more than 95 peer-reviewed research articles, three book chapters, and eight patent applications. He has been a member of several Scientific Advisory Boards, Journal Editorial Boards, and Grant Proposal Review Panels. Dr. Mahmud has received a number of awards, including the Matt Suffness Young Investigator Achievement Award from the American Society of Pharmacognosy and the Phi Kappa Phi Emerging Scholar Award. He is an active member of the American Chemical Society, the American Society of Pharmacognosy, the Rho Chi Pharmacy Honor Society, the Phi Kappa Phi Honor Society, and the Phi Lambda Sigma Honor Society.

Dr. Hendra Hermawan

Hendra Hermawan is associate professor at the Department of Mining, Metallurgical and Materials Engineering, Laval University, Canada. He is licensed professional engineer by the Association of Professional Engineers of Ontario. Prior to joining his current affiliation in 2014, he was senior lecturer at Universiti Teknologi Malaysia and industrial postdoctoral fellow at CHU de Québec Research Center.

 

Among the courses Dr. Hermawan has been teaching are composite materials, materials properties and selection, and occupational health and safety for engineers. His research focuses on metallurgy and degradation aspects of metals for biomedical applications mostly funded by public funding agencies. He has been supervising 25 graduate students and published more than 100 scientific papers and communications. 

 

Dr. Hermawan serves as member of editorial board at Scientific Reports (Springer Nature), Journal of Orthopaedic Translation (Elsevier) and Metals (MDPI), and reviewer for papers related to materials science and engineering. He has been reviewing grant applications for various funding agencies such as Irish Research Council, Polish National Science Center, Swiss National Science Foundation, Wellcome Trust/DBT India, and US-Israel Binational Science Foundation. He served as thesis examiner for a number of universities including Laurentian University, Swinburne University of Technology, Universiti Malaysia Trengganu, Politecnico di Milano, and University of Malta.

Dr. Cortino Sukotjo

Dr. Cortino Sukotjo is a tenured Associate Professor at the University of Illinois at Chicago (UIC), College of Dentistry (COD). Dr. Sukotjo received his DDS Degree from the Padjadjaran University, Indonesia, followed by Ph.D in Oral Biology from University of California at Los Angeles and Certificate in Prosthodontics-Master in Medical Sciences from Harvard School of Dental Medicine.  He is a Diplomate of the American Board Certified Prosthodontics, Fellow of the Academy of Prosthodontics, ADEA/William J. Gies Foundation Education Fellow, previous member of the ADEA Policy Center of Educational Research and Analysis Committee, and Past President of the IADR/AADR Prosthodontic Research Group. Dr. Sukotjo has co-authored 145 peer-reviewed articles and 6 book chapters. He has mentored 80 predoctoral, resident, Masters, and Ph.D students as well as junior faculty members. His research interests include dental education, corrosion, and the use of nanotechnology in dentistry.
